One every nine women will suffer from breast cancer at any given time in their life, and this simple and quick procedure can save you a lot of trouble, and even your life. Please do not forget to make an appointment with your gynecologist for a yearly check up. If you are over forty, or have already undergone menopause, this check up should be once every six months.

This self-exam will help you detect lumps at an early stage and any swallowing in the lymph nodes surrounding the breasts. It should be done right after your monthly period. The procedure is the following, standing up straight, take your left palm to the nape, and with the right hand start examining your left breast. Extend the index, middle and ring fingers, and softly palpate the totality of the breasts. Do this with both breasts.

With your arms at the side of your body, take a long look at your breasts. Lift your arms at the shoulder arms, and make sure there are no visible changes in the breast line. Now lie down on a flat surface, and put a pillow under the right shoulder. Examine with the three finger tips the whole breast, making circular movements. Take notice of any irregularities, depressions of the skin, differences in texture and make an appointment with your gynecologist immediately.
